Wisconsin chose the American Robin as its state bird in 1927 - via a schoolchildren’s vote - then waited 22 years before the legislature made it official. The state’s 15,000-plus lakes, boreal north, and Mississippi bottomlands support 457 accepted species, including breeding Whooping Cranes and the secretive Yellow Rail at Crex Meadows.
This plate gathers Wisconsin’s signature birds onto a single sheet, drawn in the Audubon style: American Robin, Sandhill Crane, American Goldfinch, Black Capped Chickadee, Downy Woodpecker, Canada Goose, Great Blue Heron, and the Bald Eagle.
