The story of the bird
Every May, half a million shorebirds descend on Delaware Bay beaches to gorge on horseshoe crab eggs - one of the largest wildlife spectacles on the Atlantic coast. Delaware is the First State and, with 432 species on its official list, punches well above its size for birdlife on the Atlantic Flyway.
This plate gathers the signature birds of Delaware onto a single sheet, drawn in the Audubon tradition of close observation and honest colour: Red Knot, Ruddy Turnstone, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Sanderling, Dunlin, Saltmarsh Sparrow, Seaside Sparrow, and the Brown-headed Nuthatch.

How to hang it
A composite plate wants room to breathe. Give it a pale wall, warm white or sage, and hang it at eye height where the palette can carry. A brown or gold moulding suits the cream ground; black or dark grey gives a more graphic edge. Keep it out of direct sun, which fades the colour over decades.
