Printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm.
He is at rest, and still he burns. The male Anna’s sits on a bare twig, wings folded, and the light does the rest. Catch him at the right angle and the crown and throat ignite, rose and magenta against an emerald back, composed with clean negative space so the eye can linger.
A fine-art study in a contemporary Audubon-inspired natural-history style with a soft paper-grain finish, the bird set against an open ground so every feather can be read.
Unframed, the print comes on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm, a heavyweight archival cotton rag with a soft matte surface and a gentle tooth. Choose the framed option and the print arrives mounted, glazed and ready to hang, in your choice of black, white or natural frame.
Three sizes: 8 x 10, 16 x 20 and 24 x 30 inches. Prints from $39. Framed from $99.
This is a small bird with a big charge of colour, so give it room. A pale wall, cream or soft grey, lets the rose throat do the talking. A natural frame echoes the warmth and suits a softer room; black or white keeps it crisp and modern. Hang it at eye level, where the crown can catch the light as you pass.
Anna’s Hummingbird is a year-round resident of the Pacific coast, from Baja California up into British Columbia. Unusually for a hummingbird, it does not migrate far, and males sing a thin, scratchy song from exposed perches. In courtship the male climbs high, then dives, and at the bottom of the dive his tail feathers produce a sharp chirp. Its rosy crown and gorget set it apart from most North American hummingbirds, which carry colour on the throat alone.
Small, fierce, and lit from within.
