An African Grey Parrot, drawn in the soft scalloped grey that gives the bird its name, each breast feather edged paler so the whole body reads like fine grisaille work, with the bare white face, the pale straw eye, the heavy black bill and the one note of colour the species is famous for: the scarlet tail. The print sets him on a berried branch, calm and side-on, the way the old plates posed a subject so every field mark could be read at a glance.
It is, by most accounts, the most accomplished talker and problem-solver of any parrot, a bird whose intelligence has filled scientific papers, and something of that watchful composure comes through in the pose. For a wall it is the quiet, sophisticated end of the parrot family, grey and restrained where the macaws are loud, with that flick of red to keep it from being sombre.
Available in three sizes on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm, an archival cotton rag with a soft matte surface. Printed by Prodigi with pigment inks rated 100+ years under display conditions. Framed prints are glazed, no mat, in black, brown, dark grey or gold.
