A wide-eyed, endearing feeder bird, rendered close for a reading corner, hallway, or a gift for a fellow birder. The Tufted Titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) has the largest eyes relative to its head of any North American songbird, with a grey crest, black forehead and rust-orange flanks that read clean and graphic against the cream ground.
The bird arrives at feeders in family groups through autumn, caches seeds under bark like its chickadee relatives, and is one of the bolder feeder birds, often landing on an extended hand. It has expanded its range northward over the past half-century as winters have grown milder and backyard feeders have made the cold months easier to survive.

The surface holds fine lines and subtle colour gradients without glare, which matters for Audubon-tradition work where the cream ground needs to read as paper, not as a white field.
