The Semipalmated Sandpiper is the small, tidy “peep” of the shoreline, the little grey-brown wader that runs the tide line in busy flocks. Neat and softly coloured, it is a gentle, understated print, the collector’s small sandpiper, and a knowing companion piece for a birder who loves the quiet detail of the shore.
The Semipalmated Sandpiper is one of the most numerous shorebirds of the Americas, migrating in enormous flocks between the Arctic tundra and the coasts of South America, refuelling on the great tidal flats along the way. It is named for the small partial webs between its toes. Soft grey-brown above and white below, with a short, straight bill, it is a clean, minimal study whose restraint suits a calm, neutral wall.
