The Northern Gannet is the largest seabird of the North Atlantic and one of the most striking. The body is a clean, brilliant white, the head washed in soft buttery gold, the long pointed wings tipped in sharp jet black, and the pale eye ringed in fine blue. It is a bird built for one spectacular purpose: to fold its wings and plunge from great height into the sea, hitting the water like a spear to chase fish below the surface.
That dagger shape is what makes the print. The plate leans on the gannet’s long, tapered lines and the crisp black-and-white contrast, the golden head the one soft note against the cream ground. It is graphic and elemental, a coastal seabird that carries the open Atlantic onto a wall.
Gannets gather in vast cliff colonies on the rocky headlands of the North Atlantic, birds of wind and salt and cold blue water.
