Printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm.
A Common Redpoll, small and streaked, with the bright crimson patch on the forehead that the old name “poll” refers to, and the soft rose wash across the breast that the brightest males carry. The print places him on a spent seed-head, which is exactly where you find them: redpolls work birch and alder catkins and weedy stems through the hardest part of winter, hanging at any angle to reach the seed.
They are birds of the far north that drop south in irruption years, sometimes arriving at feeders in restless flocks when the boreal seed crop fails. For a feeder-watcher a redpoll winter is a gift, and this plate keeps one close-to-hand all year.
Available in three sizes on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm, an archival cotton rag with a soft matte surface. Printed by Prodigi with pigment inks rated 100+ years under display conditions. Framed prints are glazed, no mat, in black, white or natural.
